Thunder Camp 2024

Looking for a fun, exciting, and impactful experience to make your transition into the Hurricane family smoother?

You found it! Thunder Camp is Georgia Southwestern's extended orientation program designed to assist incoming freshmen with their transition into college. Hosted August 4 - 6, 2024, this three-day, two-night experience establishes an opportunity for you to engage and connect with your peers, faculty, and campus leaders through entertaining activities that create bonds with your fellow Thunder Campers.

Thunder Camp provides a foundation for a successful college experience by immersing you in community-building, developing a greater sense of self-awareness, and building a connection to our GSW family. Within the away-camp setting, you will develop a greater sense of independence and school pride as you embark on new adventures with your fellow Canes.

Being a Thunder Camper provides an opportunity for you to blossom in new directions as you begin your journey here at GSW. Our new Canes will be mentored by Thunder Camp Counselors (TCCs) - GSW student leaders who are involved in campus life. These hand-selected counselors are well-trained and eager to help you find your place at GSW so you can thrive in your first year and beyond!

Can I move into the residential halls early if I come to Thunder Camp?

Students who attend Thunder Camp are allowed to move into their residence hall rooms on Sunday, August 4 from 8:00-11:00 am.

Who can attend?

Thunder Camp is open to all incoming GSW freshmen, whether you are admitted for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 semester. We encourage both residential and commuter students to join in on the Thunder Camp experience. Only GSW freshman students can attend, no family or friends!

What does the price include?

The $75 price of Thunder Camp includes lodging, meals, transportation during the program, activities, and swag. Students will pay with a credit card when completing the registration form. Please make sure to complete the entire payment process to secure your spot.

How is Thunder Camp different from Orientation?

At GSW orientation, students have the opportunity to explore campus, go through academic advising, select courses, and gain exposure to departments and student support resources at the institution. Thunder Camp focuses on the next step - the transition from high school to college and creating fun experiences through activities and bonding.

Can I get a refund if I decide not to attend?

A 50% refund will be given to those who request it before the deadline of July 22, 2024. No refunds will be given for cancellations made after the registration deadline as program materials have already been purchased and reservations have been solidified.
