As many of us know, it’s the people we work with each day that make being a part of GSW a special experience. It is the way we come together to guide, motivate, challenge and develop students that makes GSW a unique educational community. The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed us in directions we never thought possible, and has caused us to be creative, quick thinking, and focused on our primary goal of student success while ensuring we are able to protect the safety and health of all involved.  While it has been challenging, I know the GSW family has risen to the occasion in ways seen by many, but also in countless acts of skill, generosity and caring that may have gone relatively unnoticed.

President Neal Weaver and his wife, Kristi, have a very special announcement they'd like to share with the GSW family, especially our graduating seniors.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued a new Executive Order which takes effect at 6:00pm on Friday, April 3, 2020 lasting until April 13, 2020 regarding COVID-19 and the Public Health Emergency. This Order includes the implementation of a statewide shelter in place directive with the exception of Critical Infrastructure.

Georgia Southwestern and the University System of Georgia’s (USG) 26 institutions will continue to deliver instruction remotely during the May and Summer semesters, with only limited exceptions.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has published a web portal containing information about broadband access in Georgia. This site contains important information concerning Internet access resources and Internet and Mobile Phone Carriers’ offerings to help Georgians in response to COVID-19. This site includes information on:

The University System of Georgia (USG) has instructed all USG universities to move to remote instruction with minimal physical presence on campus due to COVID-19. The GSW Residence Hall Spring 2020 Move-Out Phase II Plan is guided by the objectives to support CDC recommendations for social distancing for health safety and to provide reasonable options for students to move off campus.

We hope GSW students are all doing well and adjusting to all of the changes that are taking place for the semester, and in your communities as well. The administration wants to assure you that we are working hard to ensure you can be successful this semester.

All University System of Georgia employees are now eligible for free COVID-19 virtual screenings through Augusta University Health System’s AU Health Express Care app.

This notice is to announce that as of Friday, March 27, the 7-day campus restriction on employees and students from Albany, Georgia has been lifted.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the details surrounding student refunds. This process has probably left you with many questions, and we are certainly making every effort to address those in a timely manner. Georgia Southwestern continues to receive guidance from the University System of Georgia (USG) as we work together to ensure the overall safety and well-being of our campus community.

While we are working through the end of Spring semester, we are also looking forward to Fall 2020. Remote advising is going on this week, and Registration is set for next week. Please review the information below to be sure you're on track to register for your Fall courses!

As students make the transition to online learning on Monday, March 30 for the remainder of the semester, you may be facing new challenges, such as changes to your daily routine or working in a new environment with new distractions. Please know that GSW’s faculty, staff and administration are working diligently to ensure your success and develop resources to help you navigate this "new normal."

To maintain the health and safety of the GSW campus community, all Georgia Southwestern State University employees living in Albany will NOT be permitted to come to campus for the duration of the 7 day shutdown of Albany scheduled to start tomorrow.

As Georgia Southwestern continues to follow guidance from the State of Georgia and the University System of Georgia (USG), we are working to limit the number of people on campus by having employees work remotely if possible. Please refer to the information below to contact campus services and check back regularly, as the COVID-19 pandemic is quickly evolving and changes may be made.

Following guidance from the Governor’s Office, Georgia Department Public Health and CDC, all public events and large gatherings need to be cancelled (or rescheduled). The University System of Georgia has directed all 26 institutions to cancel Spring commencement ceremonies and consider alternatives. As we continue to navigate these unprecedented challenges surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are taking all possible steps to keep our GSW community healthy.
