AMERICUS, Ga. (Dec. 10, 2016)--Georgia Southwestern State University will host the funeral for Americus Police Officer Nicholas Smarr Sunday, December 11 at  2 p.m in the Student Success Center “Storm Dome” (building 10 in campus map).

The public is welcome to attend. We encourage you to arrive early to get a seat, as most of the seating will be taken by family, friends and fellow law enforcement officers.

Public parking will be available in the lot behind the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex (building's number 48 and 49 on the map) or the lot between the Education Center and the Magnolia Residence Hall (buildings 32 and 47 on the map). Additional parking may be available in the James Earl Carter Library (building 20 on the map) parking lot.

A police escort will lead Officer Smarr to the campus between 9:30 and 10 a.m. from Greg Hancock Funeral Home down Forsyth Street to Cotton Street to Lamar Street to Tripp Street to the GSW Storm Dome. The community has been asked to be present to honor the escort while it travels on this path.

The funeral procession will travel from the Storm Dome to Tripp Street. From Tripp Street, a horse-drawn caisson will lead the procession to Oak Grove Cemetery - the site of the graveside service. The community has been asked to be present to honor the procession while it travels on this path.
