AMERICUS, GA (January 24, 2020) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) will host its 40th annual MLK Convocation on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. in the Convocation Hall of the Student Success Center. Reverend Tony Lowden, pastor of Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Ga., will serve as the keynote speaker. This year’s theme for convocation is “One People, One Nation, One Dream.”

AMERICUS, GA (Janurary 16, 2020) — The Chick-fil-A Express on Georgia Southwestern’s campus located inside the Storm Dome is back open for business as of Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020. The closure took place on Friday, Dec. 13 after GSW’s graduation ceremonies for renovations. Chick-fil-A requires all locations to undergo a "refresh" every few years to update each restaurant and make any needed repairs.

AMERICUS, GA (January 15, 2020) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) is currently accepting applications for the prestigious President Jimmy Carter Leadership Program for the 2020-2021 academic year. Incoming freshmen who are interested in the program are encouraged to apply by the Feb. 1 deadline.

AMERICUS, GA (December 19, 2019) – Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) recognized the Class of 2019 on Friday, December 13 at the Fall 2019 Commencement ceremony in the Convocation Hall. Approximately 285 students received their bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees during the ceremonies, with 436 students total earning degrees this semester.

AMERICUS (December 6, 2019) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) will hold its Fall 2019 Commencement ceremonies Friday, December 13 in the Convocation Hall of the Student Success Center. The undergraduate ceremony will be at 11 a.m. and the graduate ceremony will be at 3 p.m., with 285 students receiving degrees across both ceremonies.

AMERICUS, GA (December 4, 2019) — A recent grant award from the Georgia Power Foundation helps fund Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Southwestern Promise Scholarship Program that specifically targets high school students in a 56-county area of Southwest Georgia. Students with an 1100 SAT or 22 ACT and a 3.0 GPA will earn a $1,000 “Blue” scholarship each year for four years, and students with a 1200 SAT or 25 ACT and a 3.0 GPA will earn a $2,000 “Gold” scholarship.

AMERICUS, GA (November 21, 2019) — Six students from Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) College of Business and Computing traveled to Jacksonville, Fl. this week to present human resource management solutions to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

AMERICUS, GA (November 7, 2019) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) is partnering with Southwest Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates (SOWEGA CASA) for an Angel Tree Project to benefit foster children in SOWEGA CASA’s service area. The goal of the project is for every foster child in SOWEGA’s 12-county service area to have gifts during the holiday season.

AMERICUS, GA (November 6, 2019) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) hosted its inaugural Science Day for more than 250 local high school students on Friday, November 1. Students participated in hands-on science experiments and lab demonstrations led by GSW science majors and professors.

AMERICUS, GA (October 31, 2019) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) is implementing a new student leadership development program called CliftonStrengths for Students on campus to help students discover their inner talents, strengths, and gifts. The goal is to foster an environment for students to learn, develop and apply their individual talents to their present and future endeavors.
