AMERICUS, GA (July 23, 2018) — The Georgia Southwestern Foundation was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000 from The Sumter Electric Membership Corporation Foundation, Inc. (Sumter EMC) to establish an annual scholarship fund for students.

Local physician and Georgia Southwestern State University alumnus Dr. Ben Andrews, Jr. (’80) will be recognized with the Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (OESA) Thursday, Aug. 30 by the South Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The event will be hosted by South Georgia Technical College in the John M. Pope Center.

Bob Woodruff Foundation supports another year of Operation Family Caregiver

AMERICUS, GA – After one and a half years of successfully providing a critical support system to military caregivers in the state of Washington, Operation Family Caregiver (OFC) is pleased that the program will continue for the next year. The Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF) has announced a new grant to the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving (RCI), which administers the unique military caregiver support program. BWF works to ensure injured veterans and their families are thriving long after they return home.

ATLANTA — Tom Giddens (’79) was honored recently by the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in recognition of his dedicated service to Aflac for 32 years and his love and support of the Aflac Cancer Center. A donation was made by Aflac to endow a chair for the Director of Oncology in the Aflac Cancer Center.  The name of the chair is the Thomas R. Giddens Chair for Oncology.

(May 2, 2018) — Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) is pleased to announce the inclusion of $3.4 million in House Bill 684, Georgia’s Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) budget, to fund the renovation of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), GSW’s primary advisement building. Officially signed into law May 2, 2018 by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, the FY19 budget totals $26.2 billion.
