“Georgia Southwestern has always provided a private school feel combined with the affordability of a state-supported institution,”said Best Value Schools badgeGSW Interim President Charles Patterson, Ph.D. “This latest ranking reinforces our long-standing position as an affordable and comprehensive bachelor’s and master's granting institution. Using sources like College Board, U.S. News and World Report and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), defined a “small college” as a traditional, four-year college or university that has 4,000 or fewer students. There are approximately 700 schools of this size in the U.S.

The site ranked the value of each school based on “net price” as defined by the NCES “College Navigator” search tool. According to the College Navigator, net price is generated “by subtracting the average amount of federal, state/local government, or institutional grant or scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required fees (lower of in-district or in-state), books and supplies, and the weighted average for room and board and other expenses.” Georgia Southwestern’s net price was listed as $11,774 (FY2015) based on the formula.
