AMERICUS, Ga. (July 13, 2016) – Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) 2015-2016 edTPA scores are in and they surpass the Georgia pass rate. edTPA is a new requirement for teachers and teacher candidates in the state of Georgia as of September 1, 2015 per the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

edTPA, developed by the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE), is a performance-based, subject-specific assessment and support system used by teacher preparation programs throughout the United States to emphasize, measure and support the skills and knowledge that all teachers need from their first day in the classroom.

Georgia-established candidate pass rates for fall 2015 and spring 2016 (as of March 31, 2016) were 92 percent for middle grades, secondary, special education and health and physical education and 91 percent for early childhood education.

GSW pass rates for fall 2015 and spring 2016 (as of July 6, 2016) were 23 out of 24 candidates or 95.8 percent for middle grades, secondary, special education and health and physical education and 41 out of 42 or early childhood education.
