Americus, Ga. (February 17, 2017) – Jeffrey Green, professor and chair of the Department of Theater, Communication & Media Arts at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), was recently presented with the Kennedy Center College Theater Festival’s (KCACTF) Gold Medallion award.

The theater festival for Region 4 was held from Feb. 8-11 at Georgia Southern University. Region 4 is comprised of members from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Southern Virginia and Tennessee.

“Each year, the eight KCACTF regions honor individuals or organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to the teaching and producing of theatre and who have significantly dedicated their time, artistry and enthusiasm to the development of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival,” their website reads.

“Most importantly, recipients have demonstrated a strong commitment to the values and goals of KCACTF and to excellence in educational theatre,” the site says about the award. “It is the most prestigious regional award given by KCACTF and is considered one of the great honors in theatre education.”

Green, who also serves as the artistic director of the Rylander Theater/Community Partnership Productions and faculty advisor/produce for GSW-TV16 student television productions, became involved with KCACTF over 20 years ago as a professor in Nebraska. There, he served as a production respondent and presented workshops at the Region 5 festivals.

A faculty member at GSW since 1999, Green has been lauded with numerous accolades for his work in theater. Some of his awards include being named a Full Fellow to the Georgia Repertory Ensemble of Artists and Theaters, receiving the “Exemplary Support of Educational Theater” from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and being named a “Shining Star” by the University System of Georgia from the Georgia House of Representatives.
