WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 9, 2017)--Georgia Southwestern State University was recognized earlier this month by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) with a 2017 Educational Fundraising Award, which recognizes U.S. institutions for overall performance and improvement in educational fundraising programs. GSW was one of 89 colleges and universities selected from among 554 eligible institutions by CASE.

“Such an award is made possible through the generous support of our alumni, friends and external foundations who value the work being done at GSW and are willing to invest in our students, faculty and staff,” said Reda Rowell, executive director of the GSW Foundation.  “We appreciate everyone who contributes to the growth and enhancement of Georgia Southwestern.”

“Fundraising and external support is essential for the University’s continued growth, and vitally important for supporting needs-based scholarships for our students, “said Charles Patterson, interim president.  “Our increase in fundraising comes from the dedicated outreach efforts of our team of advancement professionals and the culture of philanthropy being established at Georgia Southwestern State University.”

The University’s selection for this award is based on data submitted over the last three years to the Council for Aid to Education's annual Voluntary Support of Education survey.

"As raising private support becomes more critical for colleges, universities and independent schools, our 2017 honorees are setting the standard for fundraising excellence," said Brian Flahaven, CASE's senior director for advocacy." We are particularly pleased that 25 institutions are being recognized for the first time." GSW is one of those 25 institutions who are first time awardees.

Along with Georgia Southwestern, schools being recognized for the first time include The Citadel, the University of Oregon and Western Michigan University.
