DUBLIN, Ga. (April 17, 2014)—Having been in place for a little more than a year, Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) officially cut the ribbon today on the External Programs office for the School of Business Administration located on US Highway 80 in Dublin.

“Having a dedicated office for online students in this area provides a one-stop shop for advisement, financial aid and admissions without having to visit campus,” said Dr. Liz Wilson, dean of the School of Business. “More and more students are coming back to school as their current or desired jobs require a college degree. Our program is geared toward the working student or one who has other responsibilities that require him or her to complete his or her degree at times when most colleges aren't open.”

Immediately following the ribbon cutting, GSW renewed 2 + 2 curriculum agreements between the School of Business and East Georgia State College (EGSC), South Georgia State College (SGSC) and Bainbridge State College (BSC). Georgia Southwestern offers AACSB-accredited online degrees in management, accounting, human resource management and marketing.

“Georgia Southwestern takes very seriously its responsibility to provide programming wherever needed,” said Dr. Kendall Blanchard, GSW president. “We also enjoy productive, collaborative relationships with the other colleges in the University System of Georgia. South Georgia State College, East Georgia State College, and Bainbridge State College are important partners and their collaboration is important to our School of Business Administration and its growth over the past few years.  At the same time, the programs that our business faculty provide either on-line or on the campuses of our partner institutions provide opportunities for place-bound students who otherwise would be unable to complete requirements for an undergraduate degree.”

Since 2008, Southwestern’s School of Business Administration has had 247 transfer students from these three schools earn bachelor’s degrees. Thanks to the online nature of GSW’s program, most of these students have been able to complete their coursework without having to leave their hometown. In all, the online program in GSW’s School of Business has grown by nearly 200 percent since 2008. The University plans sign similar renewal agreements with Georgia Perimeter College and Georgia Military College in the near future.

On hand to help facilitate the ribbon cutting and to show support were Dublin Chamber of Commerce Willie Paulk and other representatives from the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
