AMERICUS, Ga. (Feb. 24, 2012)—Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) launched its newest version of www.gsw.edu on Percussion CM1 – a cutting-edge Web Content Management System (WCMS).With the launch, the University’s site has a brand new design and an improved navigational structure.

AMERICUS (Feb. 22, 2012)--Marcus Johnson was the inaugural speaker at Georgia Southwestern State University Student Support Services’ “TRIO Day Celebration.” The director of marketing and public relations at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, Johnson is an alumnus of the Upward Bound program formerly housed at the University. Student Support Services at GSW is currently the only TRIO program at GSW. The TRIO Programs are a group of federally-funded programs aimed at identifying and providing services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.

AMERICUS (Feb. 22, 2012)--The annual Griffin B. Bell Lecture was held today in GSW's Jackson Performance Hall. Rebecca Costa, critically acclaimed author of "The Watchman's Rattle," was the featured lecturer.

AMERICUS (Dec. 7, 2011)--Leadership, defined as the “capacity to lead,” can be developed. Toward that end, the University System of Georgia holds a leadership conference each year – the L3 Summit: Leaving a Legacy of Leadership.

AMERICUS (Jan. 5, 2012)--Fresh on the heels of its online Master of Science in nursing degree approval, the Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) School of Nursing has established an innovative Guaranteed Acceptance Program (GAP) beginning Fall 2012.

AMERICUS (Dec. 9, 2011)--Adding to its mission to become the university in the state known for meeting the needs of transfer students, Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) signed an agreement with Georgia Military College (GMC) to offer bachelor’s degrees in accounting and management via the internet. This agreement is effective immediately.

AMERICUS (Dec. 5, 2011)--Retired Americus resident Tom Holman finalized an endowed nursing scholarship recently at Georgia Southwestern State University in honor of his late wife, Nell Holt Holman, who passed away earlier this year.

AMERICUS (Nov. 28, 2011)--During their November meeting, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) newest graduate degree program, a Master of Science in nursing to be delivered online.

AMERICUS (Jan. 11, 2012)--As the amount of technology used in the classroom increases, the software used to support classroom and online teaching becomes more and more important.Curt Carver, Ph.D., vice chancellor and chief information officer of the University System of Georgia (USG) was on campus Monday to discuss the new Learning Management System (LMS) being rolled out over the next 18 months.

AMERICUS (Nov. 29, 2011)--The 29th Annual Meeting of the Association of Third World Studies (ATWS), Inc., was held in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, November 20-23. The meeting featured 90 attendees from around the world who participated in 25 panels and round table discussions that focused on the theme, “Global Change, Shifting Dynamics, and the Third World.”

AMERICUS (Jan. 27, 2012)--Rebecca Costa, author of “The Watchman’s Rattle: Thinking Our Way Out of Extinction,” is set to deliver the annual Griffin Bell Distinguished Lecture.The event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. in the Jackson Performance Hall at Georgia Southwestern State University.

AMERICUS (Nov. 11, 2011)--Georgia Southwestern State University student Kristy Handsom was recently recognized for winning a full tuition scholarship from the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia (WSWG) Foundation. A native of Ellenwood, Ga., Handsom is a nursing major. The WSWG Foundation grants scholarships to non-research institutions within the University System of Georgia each year on a rotating basis. Having awarded its first scholarship in 1965, the WSWG Foundation has funded more than 1,000 scholarships totaling over $1 million.
