Event Recap
RCI invited to Invictus Games
Because of the work the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving is doing to support military caregivers through Operation Family Caregiver, they were invited to the recent Invictus Games Symposium on Invisible Wounds, hosted by the George W. Bush Presidential Center, in Orlando on May 8. The symposium focused on understanding the multiple facets of invisible wounds and how the warriors, caregivers, general public, providers, and influences each play an important role in helping servicemen and women succeed. Former First Lady Laura Bush, President George W. Bush, Prince Harry, medical and policy experts, warriors, and caregivers were among the distinguished speakers. According to RCI Executive Director Dr. Leisa Easom and OFC National Program Director Laura Bauer, having the opportunity to meet and network with both warriors and their caregivers was the highlight of the event. Col. Miguel Howe, US Army (Retired), Director of the Military Service Initiative for the George W. Bush Institute, told Dr. Easom, “We value your leadership, and your leadership on this issue in particular”.
