Tate named provost of Wingate

HTate WingateGeorgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) associate vice president for academic affairs was recently named provost of Wingate University starting in the fall of 2016. After a nationwide search, Helen Tate, Ph.D., was selected to serve as Wingate’s first provost since the 1990s. Retired assistant vice president Lynda Lee Purvis will fill Tate’s role in the interim until a permanent replacement is selected.

School of Education's edTPA scores surpass Georgia pass rates

Georgia Southwestern State University's (GSW) 2015-2016 edTPA scores are in and they surpass the Georgia pass rate. edTPA is a new requirement for teachers and teacher candidates in the state of Georgia as of September 1, 2015 per the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

RCI receives donation from Ryan Coleman Foundation

Dr. Easom with Reagan and AveryThe Ryan Coleman Foundation donated nearly $5,000 from the proceeds they raised from the 3rd Annual RYNO 5-K and Fun Run held back in March. The race is held every year in memory of a former RCI employee, Ryan Coleman, whose life tragically ended too soon. All of the proceeds benefit the Rosalynn Carter Institute’s CARE-NET which funds the ‘Caregivers of the Year’ Awards, a cause that Ryan held near and dear to his heart. Ryan’s two beautiful daughters, Reagan and Avery, presented the check to the RCI in June. The next race will be held in November 2017 in Americus, so mark your calendars.

GSW to be exclusive USG Institution to offer BBA through eMajor

Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) has just been approved as the exclusive University System of Georgia (USG) school to offer a Bachelor of Business Administration through the eMajor program beginning Spring 2017.

Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) has been ranked 6th among the nation’s most affordable online colleges in 2016 according to a new report by rankings.com. GSW received the Editor’s Award for Best Tuition.

HB792 passes

Having gone into effect July 1, 2016, this act allows individuals who are at least 18 years of age and enrolled in a class to carry and use an electroshock weapon (taser) in any building or real property owned by or leased to a public technical school, vocational school, college, university, or other public institution of postsecondary education and provides for a definition. The Act amends O.C.G.A. Section 16-11-127.1.
