GSW Fields Delegation to the 20th Annual Southeast Model African Union
Under the leadership of David Hunter (Education) and Susan Bragg (History), five GSW students participated in the 20th Annual SE Model African Union, held at the University of Georgia from Nov. 3-5. Students Ariana Carby (Information Technology), Nikki Kadima (Pre-Nursing), Hubert O. Appiah Kubi (Exercise Science), Jessica Montanye (Pre-Nursing), and Simran Sethi (MOWR) represented the nation of Senegal. Students from across Georgia participated in this event designed to build political and geographical awareness of Africa while networking with UGS faculty and diplomats with ties to the continent.
GSW students sat in on meetings debating policies to advance human rights, democracy, pan-African unity, and social matters such as empowering women and developing sources of youth employment. At the conclusion of the event, Hubert Appiah Kubi earned an honorable mention for his participation as a voting delegate on the Committee of Social Matters. This year’s trip built on David Hunter’s experience working with SEMAU and critical university support for student participation. We hope to continue to represent GSW at this important regional undergraduate conference in the futur
