Inaugural Undergraduate Research Symposium showcases GSW student research
GSW hosted its first Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 13 featuring student research on topics such as history, music, sociology, business, nursing, theater, and a variety of sciences.
“The symposium gave the university an opportunity to recognize students and their faculty mentors for the impressive research they are doing in their major programs,” said Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Lynda Lee Purvis. “The research itself along with presenting it before an audience gave the students valuable experience for their future endeavors.”

Georgia Southwestern announces Laura Boren as vice president for Student Engagement and Success
Laura D. Boren, Ph.D., has been chosen as GSW's new vice president for Student Engagement and Success (VPSES), effective July 1, 2018, concluding a nationwide search.
Boren comes to GSW from Tarleton State University, part of the Texas A&M University System, located in Stephenville, Texas, where she serves as vice president for Student Affairs. Previously, Boren served as vice president for Student Affairs at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.
“I am elated to join Georgia Southwestern and have the opportunity to create meaningful student interactions and positively impact their lives,” said Boren. “I want to help students be successful from the time they step on campus to the time they graduate.”

GSW secures $3.4 million in Georgia state budget for building renovation
GSW was recently allocated $3.4 million in House Bill 684, Georgia’s Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) budget, to fund the renovation of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), GSW’s primary advisement building. Officially signed into law May 2, 2018 by by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, the FY19 budget totals $26.2 billion.
