Sirocco celebrates publication of its 2018 double issue
Sirocco, GSW’s literary and arts magazine, celebrated the publication of its 2018 issue at its annual launch party and awards ceremony on May 2 in the Marshall Student Center. This year’s special double issue marks the first time in many years that Sirocco has published both a fall and a spring issue.
This year’s Literary and Visual Arts Awards went to the following contributors:
- Editor’s Choice: Emily Everson, “Puppet Master” (fall); Sara Sellers, “Child of Divorce” (spring)
- Poetry Prize: Sharell Thorpe, “Little Monsters” (fall); Dee Hudson, “Ebony Scarlett” (spring)
- Sirocco Cover Prize: Sydney Scott, Private (fall); Daniel L. Goss, Entrance (spring)
Associate Professor of English Michael Moir, Ph.D., was also honored for his work as Sirocco’s faculty advisor from 2013 to 2016. This year’s issues are dedicated to Moir.
This year’s staff includes Literary Editor Brittnea Holland; Art Editors Daniel Goss and Jairus Whitley; and staff members Caryn Childers, Taylor Fisher, D’Ante Hill, Dee Hudson, Daniel Player, Sara Sellers and Sharell Thorpe.
The staff of Sirocco would like to thank everyone who contributed their work and who provided their time and assistance to make this year’s double issue possible.
New Autism Education Endorsement program set to begin summer 2018
Starting this summer, Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and the School of Education will offer a new post Baccalaureate Autism Education Endorsement program for certified teachers online.
"With the increase in the number of children diagnosed with autism or on the autism spectrum, educators need to have the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of children with autism spectrum disorder,” said Dean and Associate Professor Rachel Abbott, Ph.D.
