David Jenkins promoted to Director of First Year Experience
David Jenkins was recently promoted to Director of First Year Experience, effective August 1. In this role, Jenkins will provide leadership for programs and services that support first year students’ transition to and success at the university. The director’s initiatives improve retention and graduation rates through the delivery of intentional interventions which empower students to succeed academically and personally.
The new Office of First Year Experience will oversee the dual enrollment program, the services provided by the former Academic Resource Center including advisement and tutoring and new student transition programs including new student orientation and welcome week.
Jenkins has been employed at GSW since 2001 and previously served as the Assistant Director of Admissions.
Robert Clark joins Department of Music
Robert Clark recently joined the Department of Music, where he teaches in the areas of music education and instrumental music. Among the courses he instructs are instrumental conducting, general music appreciation, elementary and secondary music education techniques and the University band. His research in music education has been focused variously on pedagogy, philosophy, perception and sociology. Recently, his studies have been published in the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education and the International Journal of Music Education.
Clark is a Georgia native, having been born and raised in Flintstone, and a product of the Walker County public schools. He previously taught for 12 years in middle and high schools in Jacksonville and Melbourne, Florida and in LaFayette, Georgia. He received his bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. degrees from Florida State University.
