2020 Spring Commencement Ceremonies cancelled

Following guidance from the Governor’s Office, Georgia Department Public Health and CDC, all public events and large gatherings need to be cancelled (or rescheduled). The University System of Georgia has directed all 26 institutions to cancel Spring commencement ceremonies and consider alternatives. As we continue to navigate these unprecedented challenges surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are taking all possible steps to keep our GSW community healthy.

USG Chancellor Steve Wrigley states, "We don't make this decision lightly, nor do we want to diminish all our students have achieved. Our institutions are working on creative, alternative ways to celebrate their students' accomplishments, and I am grateful for the commitment and dedication our students have shown in the face of extraordinary times. They have worked hard and rightfully expect to celebrate and mark their graduation."

“One of the most joyous moments for me as a President is watching our graduates walk across the stage,” said GSW President Neal Weaver, “and I hope to still be able to do that in the near future as we are beginning discussions on alternative ceremony options so that we can still celebrate the hard work and educational accomplishments of the GSW Class of 2020.”

Students set to graduate this Spring will still receive their degrees upon meeting academic standards. Graduating seniors will receive an email from Academic Affairs regarding diplomas and Herff Jones refunds.

Graduation Regalia and Refunds

I already ordered my cap and gown. What should I do?

You may consider keeping your graduation regalia as a commencement ceremony is being planned for an alternate date. OR you may choose to keep it as a memory of your academic achievement.

However, if you wish to return your graduation regalia, the Herff Jones refund policy will be honored and the gown, hood and cap (all unused) may be returned for credit (less shipping costs). The package must be postmarked prior to the planned ceremony date (May 15, 2020). For return information, please contact Customer Service by calling 1-800-837-4235. Due to the high volume of calls, expect longer than normal hold times.

I placed an order recently and haven’t received my cap and gown, can I just cancel my order and get a refund?
If you ordered your product through a website, the bookstore or grad fair AND you expected to receive your product shipped directly to your home or residence, you may request a refund. Although you may not have your product now, it is on its way to you. Unfortunately, with the number of students Herff Jones is delivering product to, they are unable to cancel the delivery of your product. Once your product arrives, you can contact Herff Jones to request your return.

What if I picked up my regalia at the Bookstore?

If you purchased your product at the GSW Bookstore or a distribution site AND you picked up the product at the Bookstore or another distribution site, please contact the Bookstore or place of purchase for their return policies.

Keep in mind, to return a cap and gown and other regalia accessories, please:

  1. Do NOT open the plastic wrapper the products arrived in. Refunds will only be processed for UNUSED products. The student is responsible for return shipping costs.
  2. Include the order number and reason for return in the package.
  3. Call customer service at 1-800-837-4235 to notify the team the order will be returned.
  4. Mail the unused products back to the return address on the package. The package MUST BE POSTMARKED BEFORE THE ORIGINAL COMMENCEMENT DATE.
  5. Due to the potential high volume of return requests, please understand that refunds could be processed beyond 7-10 business days after receiving product at Herff Jones.
