The American Studies Certificate program brings together students and faculty from a number of departments on campus to promote the interdisciplinary exploration of U.S. history and culture. Students who complete the certificate gain a deep appreciation of the cultural diversity of the United States as well as a critical understanding of the U.S. role in a global context. They communicate effectively and with an awareness of their positions within a larger cultural and societal landscape.

Completing the certificate will give a professional edge to students working toward careers in:

  • Media and Information Services
  • Museums and Art Management
  • Nonprofit Organizations and Business
  • Graduate Studies
  • Education and Teaching
  • Law
  • Government Agencies

 

Program Curriculum

Complimentary Programs

The certificate is an eighteen-hour course of study that serves as a minor. It complements majors in programs such as:

  • Communication and Emerging Media
  • English
  • General Studies
  • History
  • Music
  • Political Science
  • Visual Arts

Program Completion
