This endowed scholarship was created by Dr. Millard Agerton, former GSW Science Professor, to honor the memory of his sister Agnes, a Professor of English at GSW from 1966 to 1976. The recipient must be a full-time student majoring in English, Junior or Senior status, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
The science faculty established this scholarship to honor Daniel Arden, a former science professor at GSW. The scholarship is awarded to geo-science majors, either Freshmen or transfer students, who have a GPA of 3.0, with consideration given to SAT scores as well as curricula taken while in high school and/or college.
This endowed scholarship is in memory of Dr. Iris Stewart Argo, an alumnus and Professor of English at GSW for more than thirty years. Dr. Argo was also an accomplished author. Recipients must be English majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
This restricted scholarship was established by funds received from the estate of Hans Bertschi, a GSW alumnus who died in 2001. The Foundation researched the donor’s history of giving and determined that his intent would be to use the proceeds for scholarships to students in the English and Foreign Language Program.
Scholarship Requirements:
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Hugh D. Carter, Jr. and is awarded to students who have completed 30 semester hours of biology course work and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
The John Henry Dorminy Foundation provided funds for this music scholarship. The award is offered to music majors with strong academic standards.
The C. K. Ewing Scholarship was established in honor of Charles “Chick” Ewing, a Professor of Biology at GSW for thirty- four years. This award is for students majoring in pre-medicine, biology or nursing at GSW. Criteria are academic excellence, financial need, and professional potential.
This scholarship was established by Sandra Gillis in honor of her son, Michael, a GSW geology major. Preference given to students majoring in biology or chemistry. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need without regard to status as incoming freshman, continuing or transfer student. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student remains in good standing, in the biology or chemistry program, and 2.0 GPA is maintained.
The family of Tammy Lee Fortner in Columbus, Ga., established this endowed Scholarship in memory of their daughter. Applicants must be majors of either Fine Arts, Psychology or Sociology and maintain a 3.0 GPA in their major. Special consideration is given to students who demonstrate an interest or talent in the use of arts in human services such as art therapy, recreational therapy, occupational therapy, and music therapy.
Former Professor of Chemistry at GSW, Dr. Dowe Carter, established an endowed scholarship to honor her brother, Major Albert Peterson. The Peterson Scholarship is available to students who have completed 15 semester hours in science and math at GSW. Criteria for determining recipients include overall GPA and student’s Science and Math GPA.
The family and friends of J. Fred Power, a former Professor of English at GSW, established this endowment to honor his devotion to the students he taught for thirty-seven years. Awarded annually to a non-traditional GSW student who is in good academic standing.
Claude L. Rhyne, Ph.D. of Americus, Ga., established this memorial scholarship to honor his wife. This scholarship is for a graduate student who is pursuing a master’s degree in reading. If there is no graduate student who applies in this field of study, consideration will be given to a student or students in the Masters Degree Program in Science or Mathematics.
Claude A. Rhyne established this memorial scholarship as a tribute to his son Paul who demonstrated a love for the arts, especially instrumental ensembles. This scholarship is awarded to a student in good standing who is enrolled in a band and/or instrumental performance course at GSW.
Established by alumnus Sandra Blaylock Gillis (’69) this scholarship award was created to provide scholarships to enrolled students at GSW.
Scholarship Requirements:
This scholarship was established by alumnus Paul Pitts who credits Dr. L. R. Towson, Professor of Chemistry at GSW 1929-1942, for his successful career. Available to a junior or senior Chemistry major with a minimum 2.5 GPA, after completion of 12 semester hours for juniors and 18 hours for seniors in Chemistry.
The Wysochansky Scholarship is awarded to a GSW student who is majoring in Chemistry or Nursing, and who has an academic excellence for a minimum of two years at the University level as demonstrated by a GPA of 3.0. This scholarship honors the memory and legacy of Dr. William (Bill) J. Wysochansky, a beloved GSW chemistry professor that had amazing impact on GSW.
This scholarship was established by Dr. Sam Adams in honor Mrs. Rebecca McNeill. Mrs. McNeill was a high school teacher and a college professor at GSW as well as an administrator. She was very influential in the life of Dr. Adams and many others. Preference will be given to students majoring in science or nursing with a GPA of 2.8 or higher.
This scholarship was established by Dr. Betty Elder to help students majoring in Biology. Students must have a minimum of 25 completed Biology hours with a 3.4 Biology GPA and a total GPA of 3.2.

This scholarship was established by the membership of the Peach State Depression Glass Club. This scholarship is used to support the Glass Blowing program established at Georgia Southwestern State University. Recipients are awarded this scholarship based on the following criteria – financial need, talent, or academic achievement.
This scholarship was created by Ms. Blue Argo in memory of Mrs. Gladys C. Crabb. This scholarship is to be awarded to an Americus-Sumter High School senior, with preference given to a student who excels in English or the Humanities, though not limited to only those. It may be awarded on the basis of need.
This scholarship was established by Randy and Karen Sanders to provide support for students majoring in psychology who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and are in good standing at Georgia Southwestern State University.

This scholarship was established in memory of Kimberly Douglas Robins, a graduate of Georgia Southwestern and the Chief Administrator of the Andersonville National Cemetery. The scholarship was created by her parents, Virginia and Buddy Douglas, and by her husband, Dr. Glenn Robins. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student enrolled at GSW, with a major in History, Political Science, or an Arts & Sciences-related teaching program. Preference will be given to non-traditional students or students who demonstrate financial need.
This scholarship was established in memory of all Georgians who served honorably in the armed forces of the United States. This scholarship is to be awarded to a student enrolled at GSW, with a major in History, Political Science, or an Arts & Sciences-related teaching program. This restricted fund was established by Dr. and Mrs. Harland E. Cofer, Jr. and family in honor of their son Charles. The purpose of this fund is to support the research needs of students majoring in sciences and mathematics. A preference will be given to students researching environmental issues. Support could include, but is not limited to, funds for travel for research purposes, travel to professional meetings and research equipment
This fund was created in 1990 through a bequest from the estate of Mrs. Ruth M. Johnson who taught English and Music at GSW. The funds are to be used to support the Arts at GSW. At the University President’s discretion, these funds may be used to support and recognize student and faculty studies and achievements in Art, Music, and Literature.
