Computer Science

Hometown: Blakely, Georgia

Major: Junior Computer Science major

Graduating: May 2024

Why did you choose to attend GSW?
GSW’s faculty-to-student ratio and small-town feel made it a good choice for me to pursue my degree while being an active member of the Navy Reserves.

Please list your University highlights, achievements, leadership and awards.

  • Presidents List, 5 semesters
  • Teaching Assistant, 1 semester

Who is your favorite professor or staff member and why?
My favorite professor is a tie between Dr. Karen Cook and Dr. Chadwick Gugg. Dr. Cook has helped me navigate GSW as well as shown me valuable teaching experience while I have been her assistant this past semester. Dr. Gugg’s fiery passion for math helped me excel in his class even though math was never my strong suit.

What is your plan after graduation?
My plan after graduation is to work as a software engineer, preferably working on back end systems.

What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class is data structures and algorithms due to how impactful it is for programming.

Why did you choose your major?
I chose computer science as my major because I plan on pursuing a career in software engineering. My background in IT also made computer science an obvious choice.

What is your favorite place to eat, shop, or hang out in Americus?
My favorite place to eat in Americus is Sweet Georgia Bakery & Cafe (formerly Cafe Campesino) due to their relaxing atmosphere and great coffee. It's a great place to study.

What is your favorite vacation spot or a memorable trip you’ve taken?
My favorite vacation spot is the mountains of North Georgia. As a kid, my family and I would go every summer to the lake for a couple of weeks.
