Communication and Emerging Media

Hometown: Phenix City, Alabama

Major: Senior communication and emerging media major

Graduating: Fall 2023

Why did you choose to attend GSW?
I transferred in from the University of West Alabama. While it was great, it did not feel like the right fit for me. GSW was everything I never knew I needed through the tight-knit community, proximity to home, and the faculty and staff looking out for my future.

Please list your University highlights, achievements, leadership and awards.

  • Women’s Soccer, 2 years; Captain (2023)
  • President’s List, 4 semesters
  • Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction
  • Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll
  • Intern with the Department of University Relations (Fall 2023)

Are you currently receiving any GSW scholarships? If so, which one(s)?
Yes, I am receiving a women’s soccer scholarship.

Tell us more about something you’re involved with on campus.
I am part of the women’s soccer program here at GSW. The team has helped me in so many ways, I cannot begin to show and tell my gratitude. We have all been through many challenges since I have been here, but as a team, we stick together and play with heart for each other and GSW.

Who is your favorite professor or staff member and why?
I cannot just pick one. All the staff members in the Emerging Media and Communications program are excellent. Dr. Jones, Dr. Carter, and Mr. Pat make it their priority to teach the course material through real-world experiences that prepares us for our careers.

What is your plan after graduation?
I've been accepted into the Disney College Program for the Spring of 2024, where I plan to take time off school while getting a once in a lifetime experience. After that, I will pursue my master’s degree close to my hometown.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
These four years go by faster than you may think. Take time to appreciate where you came from and where you are now. Celebrate all your accomplishments, big or small. Take care of your mind and always be kind to yourself and others.

What is your favorite place to eat, shop, or hang out in Americus?
My teammates and I love going to Gyro City in Downtown Americus. We all get the chicken gyro with fries, which are the best!

What is your favorite vacation spot or a memorable trip you’ve taken?
My family and I went to Walt Disney World in May and had the best time! It was my boyfriend’s first time going to Disney, so it was fun to see him experience a place I have been visiting since I was a baby. Watching him ride Tower of Terror without knowing what would happen was an added plus!
