Why did you choose to attend GSW?
I was hesitant at first about coming to GSW since I was not familiar with the Americus area and was not sure about attending a smaller university after coming from a smaller high school. However, after attending Storm Day and being greeted and helped by the Storm Spotters and staff here, I fell in love with how genuinely kind and welcoming everyone was. I chose GSW because I felt like everyone here truly cared about my success and the success of all students here deeply.

Why did you choose your major, or what do you love about your major program at GSW?
Computer science is a field that I have grown to love over the years. When I was younger, I had an interest in many areas including journalism, biology and animation, however, math and technology were not on that list. Coming from a small rural area, I was not introduced to heavy math or technology areas until high school. During high school, I started practicing basic programming with my friends and gained a love for math from my teachers. This led me to start my journey in computer science, as it involved my growing interest in math and allowed me to create things in ways I never thought possible. The professors and staff members at GSW supported my passions in computer science by exposing me to opportunities and always encouraging me to keep going and delve deeper into any of my interest areas.

What makes GSW special?
GSW is one of the rare special places where you can find support from anywhere. The faculty and staff truly care and want to see you succeed. They remember your name, ask how you are and genuinely care about your experiences. Whether you are talking to a professor, staff member or President Dr. Johnston, they remember you and are always willing to help or just have a friendly conversation. This makes GSW a special place that can truly feel like your home.

What's your favorite spot on campus and why?
My favorite spot on campus is Canes Central. At the heart of campus, it is a place that you can go to for help, to study or to meet and talk with friends. There is plenty of seating and private areas to meet with groups and the staff are always kind, welcoming and willing to sit down and chat with you. Every time you step into Canes Central, you are always guaranteed a familiar and friendly face, making it one of my favorite spots to visit.

Tell us more about something you're involved with on campus.
I have been a Storm Spotter on campus for two years. When I was a freshman, the Storm Spotters helped me feel more comfortable and helped me get more involved on campus. I decided I wanted to do the same for other students, especially those in the computer science and IT fields. I worked with my Storm Spotter team and the First-Year Experience staff to support first-year students by helping them get out of their comfort zone, get involved and succeed in college. By helping students grow, I have also grown myself to be a better leader.

What is your favorite memory or experience you've had at GSW?
One of my favorite experiences at GSW was with the Canes Rainbow club and traveling to the Atlanta Pride Festival. It was a special chance for me to meet so many different people and bond with the current club members. The Canes Rainbow club has made a safe and friendly community for any group at GSW and witnessing that community thrive and support each other no matter the differences was truly amazing.

What is your plan after graduation?
I have been accepted into the Master of Computer Science program at Kennesaw State University and a position as a graduate professional assistant for the KSU Graduate Office as a social media and event coordinator. I plan to graduate with my MSCS with a Cybersecurity concentration.

What advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students is to do the thing you are afraid of. Step out of your comfort zone and follow your passions. Whether that be starting an organization, becoming a part of an organization or doing something you have always wanted to but have been too scared to do. Now is the perfect time!

If you could travel anywhere (real or fictional), where would you go and why?
If I could travel anywhere, it would be the world of the Studio Ghibli film "Spirited Away." I would visit the amusement park and speak to all the supernatural creatures and enjoy the whimsical sights.
