Center for Business and Economic Development

The Center for Business and Economic Development at Georgia Southwestern State University, housed in the College of Business and Computing, provides support services to existing and potential business, economic development agencies, and local governments in the area served by Georgia Southwestern. These services and assistance include conducting and dissemination of business and economic research, consulting services, and training and development of staff, workforce, and management.

Innovation and Entrepreneurial Strategies

Student Engagement in Innovation

At Georgia Southwestern State University, student engagement in innovation and entrepreneurship centers on immersive, hands-on opportunities that encourage learners to explore ideas, solve problems, and turn creativity into meaningful impact. GSW cultivates an inclusive environment where students from any major can collaborate across disciplines, participate in maker-style activities, develop prototypes, and take part in pitch or innovation challenges. By connecting students with mentors, campus resources, and community partners, we promote real-world learning that strengthens confidence, leadership, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Through these experiences, students not only bring forward innovative solutions but also prepare to contribute to Georgia’s expanding innovation ecosystem.

Innovation Training & Skill-Building Workshops

Georgia Southwestern State University enhances its innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives through focused trainings, workshops, and presentation series designed to build essential, real-world skills. These sessions develop core competencies, including problem-solving, opportunity recognition, project planning, and effective communication, while introducing students to industry perspectives and emerging trends. With guidance from faculty experts, guest speakers, and interactive activities, students receive structured support to refine their ideas and better understand professional expectations. These programs strengthen both technical and leadership abilities, equipping students to tackle challenges with confidence and a forward-thinking approach.
