Throughout the year, community members are invited to join Georgia Southwestern in a variety of celebrations such as annual Homecoming festivities, 'Under the Lights' soccer kick-off, fine arts exhibitions, musical performances, summer camps, and more!

13th Annual Empty Bowls

9 am - 1 pm Harvest of Hope Food Pantry GSW's Department of Visual Arts and Harvest of Hope Food Pantry will host their 13th Annual Empty Bowls event on November 7 at 606 McGarrah St. in Americus. Each handmade bowl will come with a soup voucher from one of several local restaurants in Americus. Minimum $25 donation per bowl. Proceeds will benefit the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry and GSW Visual Arts students.

GSW's Scholastic Book Fair

5 pm Georgia Southwestern State University The public and students of all ages are invited to browse the Scholastic Book Fair in Georgia Southwestern's Education Center, Room 103! The event lasts from November 9th - 13th Every purchase from the Book Fair earns rewards for our school, so please stop by and support us. If you're unable to make it in person, you can also shop online at https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/gasouthwesternstateuniv! This event is hosted by GSW's College of Education.

Harold Issacs Global South Lecture Series

6 pm Georgia Southwestern State University Join us for the Harold Isaacs Global South Lecture Series on Monday, Nov. 9, featuring Dr. Cathy Skidmore-Hess, professor at Georgia Southern University. Her lecture, “Militarizing Gender: Belief, Warfare, and Strategies of Survival in 17th-Century Angola,” will explore the intersections of gender, belief and warfare in 17th-century Angola. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in the Magnolia Manor Nursing Auditorium in the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex. All are welcome to attend.

Fall Showcase Concert

7:30 pm Jackson Hall Join us Tuesday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. for the Fall Showcase Concert featuring the GSW Concert Choir, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Held in Jackson Hall, this free concert is open to everyone, with no tickets required. Come spend an evening enjoying the music happening here at Georgia Southwestern and celebrate the students, ensembles, and musicians who make GSW Music such an exciting part of our campus community. We hope you’ll join us!

Messiah Concert

5:00 pm Americus First Methodist Church Join the choirs of Georgia Southwestern State University and Americus First Methodist Church for a performance of Handel’s Messiah on December 6 at 5:00 p.m. The concert will take place at Americus First Methodist Church. Come hear this beloved Christmas tradition and enjoy an evening of great choral music. The performance is free and open to everyone.
