Annual Science Day

The Third GSW Annual Science day was held on September 29, 2023. This event is organized by Dr. Nedialka Iordanova, Professor of Chemistry, with the participation of GSW students and faculty from the various programs and classes across campus. The event hosted more than 100 high school students from surrounding high schools. Throughout the Science Day sessions, high school students had the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments and multiple science demonstrations in the Science and Roney Buildings on campus. The event concluded with lunch provided at the GSW student cafeteria and tours of the university.

Types of Sessions

Students will participate in various demonstrations and experiments including:

  • Liquid nitrogen explosions with ping pong balls
  • Computer games and puzzles using mathematics and logic
  • Engaging with a variety of reptiles including iguanas and snakes
  • Sound waves from music and singing
  • Magnetism of various objects allowing them to float and spin
  • The creation of homemade ice cream using liquid nitrogen
  • Creation of goop and other interesting mixtures using household items

Schedule

Students should arrive at the Storm Dome to begin the day by 8:30am. After the program, any high school students that would like to tour the university can do so by request and depart after.

12:00pm Liquid Nitrogen explosions in Centennial Plaza
12:30pm Lunch at the Caf
1:30pm Optional Group Tours Upon Request
