LEAP—Liberal Education and America’s Promise—is an initiative and a philosophy of higher education of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Launched in 2005, the initiative came about as a result of nationwide consultations and input-gathering from higher education stakeholders. GSW is a member institution of AAC&U, so all GSW employees can access AAC&U’s website as members. Please create your account on AAC&U’s website. Look for “Manage Account” link on the bottom left, under “About”).

The following are the main ideas associated with LEAP:

Essential Learning Outcomes

  • Knowledge of human cultures and the physical and natural world
  • Intellectual and practical skills (inquiry and analysis, critical and creative thinking, information literacy, among others)
  • Personal and social responsibility (civic engagement, ethical reasoning, intercultural knowledge, and so on)
