New Student Orientation

Welcome to Georgia Southwestern’s New Student Orientation (NSO)!

New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to help you settle into campus life and fully prepare you for the start of your classes and college journey. You’ll learn more about campus resources, bond with classmates at social events, and familiarize yourself with campus before classes begin.

All Orientation events listed on this schedule are mandatory unless otherwise noted with an asterisk, and attendance will be counted towards your grade in your University 1000 class.

FAQ

Is attendance mandatory for all 4 days of New Student Orientation?

Yes, attendance is mandatory for the entire New Student Orientation NSO program. This program is your first step to success as a GSW Hurricane! If you have further questions, contact fye@gsw.edu.

What should I expect at new Student orientation?

  1. Engage in daily sessions intentionally developed to establish your pathway to success!
  2. Create connections with fellow new Hurricanes and acquaint yourself with the network of professors and staff members here to support you along this journey. 
  3. Deepen your understanding of the GSW Experience - encompassing living and learning with Hurricane Pride!
  4. Cultivate a sense of belonging that will guide you throughout your collegiate experience.
  5. Identify significant landmarks and key campus buildings.

How can I prepare for the NSO process?

  1. Connect with GSW social media account!
  2. Familiarize  yourself with your academic schedule.
  3. Review  the NSO 2023 schedule and get excited.
  4. Prep your attire! You will be provided a NSO shirt to wear on Tuesday. Join in the festivities of Canes Fest music festival and wear your favorite band tee or opting for charming festival attire. Themed attire is not mandatory.
  5. Wear comfortable shoes to ensure an enjoyable experience at Canes Fest. 

Breakfast Options

Breakfast will not be required or provided during Canes Fest (NSO). If you would like to grab a bite to eat, we encourage you to stop by one of the campus dining locations prior to entering the gates.

Pass the baton to mark the official beginning of your academic journey with GSW's annual convocation. Freshman will receive the Presidential Challenge Coin and complete the Freshman
Walk down Hello Walk while greeting the rest of campus. A freshman photo will be taken following the Freshman Walk.
