Shared Sick Leave

GSW’s Shared Sick Leave Program provides an opportunity for employees to support one another during times of serious illness or family medical need. Through this program, eligible employees may voluntarily donate unused sick leave to a shared leave pool that assists colleagues who have exhausted their own leave balances.

Key Highlights

Participation in the Shared Sick Leave Program is voluntary, but every contribution helps ensure that support is available for colleagues facing difficult circumstances.

  • Eligibility: Regular benefits-eligible employees who have completed their provisional period may participate.
  • Enrollment: Join during open enrollment (October 27 – November 7) by donating a minimum of eight hours of sick leave while retaining at least 40 hours for personal use.
  • Usage: Approved recipients may receive up to 160 hours at a time (maximum 480 hours per calendar year) to address qualifying medical needs.
  • Confidentiality: All medical information is handled confidentially and shared only on a need-to-know basis.
