Hohnecker named director of Community and Student Engagement

AMERICUS (Aug. 22, 2016)--Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) announced today that Jill Hohnecker, Residence Life coordinator, will serve as the university's new director of Community and Student Engagement.

"I am excited about this new position and the opportunity to work to unite the college and the community together," Hohnecker said.

Hohnecker has served in the role of Residence Life coordinator since May 2014 where she has been responsible for the overall supervision and training of the Resident Assistant (RA) Program and advancing student activities among freshmen residents. In her new, expanded role, Hohnecker will also serve as the primary point of contact with local leaders to promote student engagement between the campus and community. This is a new position within GSW's Division of Student Affairs.

“We are pleased to have Jill in this new and expanded role," said Sam Miller, Ph.D., vice president for Student Affairs, "as we enhance our efforts to strengthen collaborations between our campus and surrounding communities, for the benefit of students and others.”

A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Hohnecker is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in management. She earned a master's degree in higher education leadership from Valdosta State University while she served as a graduate assistant for residential education in the Department of Residence Life. Hohnecker is active in the Americus Community and is a big football fan.
