Georgia Southwestern hosts National History Day

AMERICUS (March 25, 2019) — Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Department of History and Political Science hosted National History Day on Friday, March 22. Over 75 students came to campus from St. Teresa's Catholic Academy, Terrell County Middle School, Terrell County High School, and Aaron Cohn Middle School and presented research on the theme, "Triumph and Tragedy" in history.

National History Day is an opportunity for students to engage in the process of producing original historical content, using primary and secondary sources, and presenting their findings to an audience. The students competed in nine categories: Group Documentary; Group Exhibit; Group Performance; Group Website; Individual Documentary; Individual Exhibit; Individual Performance; Individual Website; and Individual Paper.

As one of nine schools that hosts National History Day, Georgia Southwestern provides students with valuable feedback that will make them more competitive in the state competition at LaGrange University and, if among the top two entries there, at the national level at the University of Maryland, College Park. The judges participating include undergraduate GSW students, faculty, staff, and members of the local public history community.
