Core IMPACTS Recommended Technology, Science, and Mathematics courses by Program

Non-STEM

  • Students may take any of the science courses offered.
  • Must take at least one lab science.
  • Courses with titles beginning with “General” or “Introductory” are usually intended for non-STEM majors.
  • May take any of the courses approved in the STEM domain was their third STEM course.
  • all Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Integrated Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and Bachelor of Science in Education, unless otherwise indicated.

STEM

  • Students should take two four-hours lab science courses.
  • Courses with titles beginning with “Principles of..” are designed for STEM majors.
  • The BS in Biology and BS in Chemistry programs recommend a lab sequence in the STEM Domain.
  • STEM students may need a higher-level mathematics (above what was taken for the mathematics requirement) in this domain.
  • Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology, Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemistry, Bachelor of Science with a major in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science with a major in Information Technology.

BS in Nursing

  • Students should take a two-semester lab sequence in Biology or Chemistry.
  • The recommended biology courses are Essentials of Biology (BIOL 1103/1103L and BIOL 1104/1104L) or Principles of Biology (BIOL 2107K and BIOL 2108K)
  • The recommended Chemistry courses are the Survey of Chemistry sequence (CHEM 1151/1151L and CHEM 1152/1152L), which is designed for health professions majors, or Principles of Chemistry, which is designed for STEM majors.
  • MATH 1401 is the course recommended for Nursing Majors as the third course in this domain.

BS with Long-Term Care Management

  • Students must take a total of 3 courses related to the sciences.
  • Students should take one lab science course (4 hours)
  • Must take two other courses selected from the Tech, Science and Math courses.
  • MATH 1401 is required in the Field of Study, therefore cannot be double counted in the Tech, Science and Math domain.

BS with Exercise Science

  • Students should take a two-semester sequence of Biology (BIOL 1103/1103L and BIOL 1104/1104L, preferred) and one Chemistry course (CHEM 1151 or CHEM 1211) is the recommended science pathway, especially for those students considering pre-professional (PA, OT, AT, PA, etc.) tracks.
  • Other combinations of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and MATH 1113 are also highly productive.
  • MATH 1401 is required in the Field of Study, therefore cannot be double counted in the Tech, Science and Math domain.
