Fitness Center

Fitness Center

The GSW Fitness Center is located in the Student Success Center on the first floor. The facility is free for students, staff, faculty, and Hurricane Club members to use with a valid GSW ID. The facility is supervised by our Student Fitness Staff and Campus Recreation for Fitness and Wellness. The Fitness Center has a full weight room, including various machines, free weights, touch-screen treadmills, arc trainers, stationary bikes, and flat screen TVs for your enjoyment.

It is recommended that you bring your own towel and water bottle to the Fitness Center. Mats are provided, but it is HIGHLY recommended you bring your own mat, especially if you plan on attending daily Group Exercise classes. To help better control the spread of illness and disease, sanitizing spray and disposable towels are available to use, so please make sure to wipe off equipment after each use.

The Fitness Center also offer Group Fitness Classes for all students at no extra cost. Check out the schedule to see what classes may interest you.

What is the appropriate attire?

We suggest the following fitness attire while in the fitness center and attending group fitness classes:

  • Close-toed running, tennis, or weight lifting shoes
  • Comfortable athletic shorts or leggings
  • Athletic or tee shirt

Keep Our Gym Running

We ask that shirts cover the chest and midriff area at all times and footwear be in the form of running, tennis, or weight lifting shoes. Boots and open toe shoes are not allowed. No cargo shorts, jeans, belts, or pants that could potentially harm the equipment should be worn.

FAQ

Is there someone who can show me how to use the machines?

Yes! The Fitness Supervisors at the front desk during operation hours can assist those who need help with the equipment.

Why is an ID required to enter into the Fitness Center?

An ID is required to protect the interest of those who have paid to use the facility. Students pay activity fees every semester where a percentage goes toward the facility usage. Additionally, as a safety precaution and statistical analysis, we require that IDs be presented and swiped at the front desk.

Why do I have to sign up on IMLeages and present my ID?

IMLeagues is a reservation software that the Department of Recreation and Wellness has utilized to control the number of users in each facility. There is also a COVID-19 screening that must be filled out prior to entering the facility. Additional, the ID serves as another form of identification to certify that the user who signed up is the same person.

Are you open to the community?

No, we are not open to the community at this time. Recreation and Wellness facilities are only open to GSW students and employees in accordance with GSW guest guidelines.
