Take Wellness by Storm!

Georgia Southwestern's recreation and wellness facility is located in the newly renovated Florrie Chappell Gymnasium. The facility is free for students, staff, and faculty to use with a valid GSW ID, and open to the community for memberships or a daily pass.

The facility is supervised by our Student Fitness staff and certified Recreation and Wellness staff. The gym features a variety of state-of-the-art equipment for cardio, strength training, and functional fitness including treadmills, ellipticals, a turf area, free weights, and more.

Florrie Chappell Gymnasium also focuses on health and nutrition, mental health, and other wellness initiatives. Two unique spaces separated from the fitness area allow students to recharge mentally and physically. The Helms Family Sports Bar and the Chill Lounge both include televisions, seating, and charging stations for students.

In addition to equipment featured, Florrie Chappell Gymnasium also offers:

  • Men’s and women’s locker rooms with shower and changing facilities
  • Personal training space
  • Equipment checkout (racquetball, basketball, etc.)
  • Staff offices

What is the appropriate attire?

We suggest the following fitness attire while in the fitness center and attending group fitness classes:

  • Close-toed running, tennis, or weight lifting shoes (Boots and open toe shoes not allowed)
  • Comfortable athletic shorts or leggings (No cargo shorts, jeans, belts, or pants that could potentially harm the equipment should be worn)
  • Athletic or t-shirt (We ask that shirts cover the chest and midriff area at all times)

FAQ

What are the facility's hours?

Normal operating hours for Florrie Chappell Gymnasium are 6:00am - 10:00pm Monday through Thursday and 2:00pm - 8:00pm Friday through Sunday. Facility hours are scheduled to change during university holidays and breaks, and will be reflected on the website.

Can someone show me how to use the machines?

Yes! The Fitness Supervisors at the front desk during operation hours can assist those who need help with the equipment.

Is Florrie open to the community?

Florrie Chappell Gymnasium offers community memberships and daily guest passes for community members. Anyone who is not a GSW employee or student is considered a guest. See membership fees in table chart on the page.

Do I need an ID to access the gym?

A GSW ID by students, faculty and staff is required to protect the interest of those who have paid to use the facility. Students pay activity fees every semester where a percentage goes toward the facility usage. Additionally, as a safety precaution and statistical analysis, we require that IDs be presented and swiped at the front desk.

Community members must present a valid ID such as a driver's license to check-in.
