Committee on Graduate Affairs

The Graduate Affairs Committee shall be generally concerned with the quality of instruction and the development of curriculum and instructional facilities of the University in relation to graduate programs. The Director of Graduate Studies, the Dean of the Library, and the Deans of the Schools, which offer graduate degree programs, shall be ex-officio members of the committee. All members of Graduate Affairs must have graduate faculty status.

The committee shall:

  • Establish and monitor policy for graduate programs.
  • Review and forward to the faculty governance system all changes in policy for graduate programs and all proposals for modification, addition or deletion of graduate degree programs and concentrations.
  • Serve graduate students in the same role as the Academic Affairs Committee serves undergraduate students.
  • Establish policies and monitor administration of programs for the funding, recruitment, selection, assignment, employment and evaluation of graduate assistantships.

Proposal Submission Procedure

In order to complete a proposal submission, please complete the following:

  • One completed proposal form for each proposal with the necessary attachments should be submitted through Dynamic Forms by the submission deadline for a meeting of the Committee on Graduate Affairs.
  • Necessary attachments for course proposals are course outlines, and for program proposals or curriculum change proposals curriculum sheets.
  • Allow time for all approvers to sign off on forms before the submission deadline.

Request for a New Degree, Minor, or Certificate Program - Requests for new degree programs also require University System of Georgia approval, while requests for new minor or certificate programs only require USG notification

Proposal Deadlines

If you have a course or program change for us to review, please make sure we receive it two weeks in advance of the next meeting.  

The deadlines for proposals are:

  • March 4, 2024
  • April 8, 2024
