Preparing for Your Trip

As with any new adventure, it is important to make sure you have prepared accordingly. Studying abroad requires additional planning and preparation to make sure students are ready to take on a foreign area while also prepping for the unexpected.

The Office of Academic Affairs requires students to make two copies of all required documents and prepare a notebook to keep on hand during the trip. The other notebook will remain with Academic Affairs in the case of emergencies. Notebooks will be provided and should include the following:

  • Program Itinerary
  • Information on pre-departure orientation and post-trip meeting
  • All required documents listed under student forms
  • Copy of passport page
  • Copy of insurance card

Students are encouraged to research the country of travel to make proper choices of clothing, technology, and materials for activities ahead of time. Common items may include:

  • Universal power adapter
  • Extra battery pack for phone or camera
  • Rain jacket
  • Comfortable walking shoes

My most memorable trip was a GSW study abroad trip to Peru. I was not only able to explore the country and go to one of the seven wonders in the world, but I also helped build homes with the Fuller Center foundation.
