The Pre-Law Studies Certificate provides students with the academic foundation, analytical skills, and professional preparation needed for success in law school and legal careers. Through a combination of rigorous coursework, reading- and writing-intensive classes, and experiential learning opportunities, students develop essential skills in critical thinking, argumentation, research, and ethical reasoning.
Students gain an understanding of the role of law in society through courses such as POLS 2301: Law and Society, which introduces constitutional law and its connection to contemporary political and social issues including privacy, due process, free speech, education policy, healthcare, and voting rights. The program emphasizes legal reasoning, communication, and analytical writing — all core components of success in law school!

While Political Science is the most common undergraduate major among successful law school applicants, students from any field — including English, History, Business, or Accounting — can benefit from this certificate. The curriculum encourages intellectual diversity and prepares students to navigate the complex reading, writing, and theoretical analysis required in legal education. While not a dedicated major helping to prepare for law school, the Pre-Law Certificate still provides significant preparation and indicates to law schools an applicant's preparation and serious planning to be a law student.
Students interested in pursuing law school are encouraged to visit the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) at LSAC.org to learn about admissions, testing, and upcoming law school forums.
Each fall, students are encouraged to attend the LSAC Atlanta Law School Forum, typically held in late September or early October. Registration is required on the LSAC website — and professional business attire is recommended for the event.
