Why did you choose to attend GSW?
Both of my parents being GSW alumni and my brother also being a student here was what led me to consider attending at first. I liked the fact that the campus was close to my hometown, and that it was small, meaning it would be easier to find my way around. I also heard good things about the College of Business and Computing when a student from GSW came to speak at my high school, and that really appealed to me since I knew I wanted to pursue marketing.
Please list your University highlights, achievements, leadership and awards.
Are you currently receiving any GSW scholarships? If so, which one(s)?
Yes! I am currently receiving the Southwestern Promise Scholarship.
Why did you choose your major, or what do you love about your major program at GSW?
I chose marketing because I have always found the processes companies use to add value to their products interesting. I like that it combines the structure and stability of business with the creativity involved in making content like advertisements and logos. It is also a subject that is always changing and developing as new trends and styles emerge.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I love being on stage, particularly acting and dancing. For pretty much the entirety of elementary to high school, I was always in drama class and choir. Later I started taking dance classes at a studio in Albany until I moved for college. In my day-to-day life, I’m a pretty reserved person, but I love being on stage and expressing myself!
Tell us more about something you’re involved with on campus.
I have worked at the Writing Center since Fall 2024, and it is a great resource that I think every student should use at least once. It’s a lot more than tutoring to help you get a good grade on a paper; we focus on helping writers develop themselves and their skills. It’s also a calm place on campus to get some writing done or just relax.
Who is your favorite professor or staff member and why?
My favorite staff member is Dr. Lauren DiPaula, the director of the Writing Center. I think anyone who works at the Writing Center would share my opinion; she takes on so much responsibility while also being there to help others. She has been an amazing help in my development as a writing consultant and as a student.
What has been your greatest challenge?
Learning that I am more than my grades has been a big challenge for me. Of course it’s good to keep your grades up, but once you graduate, it becomes more about how you can actually apply that knowledge in the workplace and in your day-to-day life. Right now, I’m teaching myself to become a person who doesn’t just focus on learning to put the right answers on a test, but to use knowledge to solve problems.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
One of the biggest factors that will make college worth it for you, no matter how big or small your university is, is that you are looking for opportunities to do things outside of classes. Organizations and clubs are a great way to connect with other students, as well as professors that work in areas that align with what you want to do. Even just getting to know your professors can be a big help. Essentially, you’ll get out of college what you put into it.
What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class so far has been Personal Selling with Professor Becca Jones. When I first started the course and realized how much public speaking we would be doing, I was extremely unsure if I would stay in the class. However, I would say that taking the class greatly improved my public speaking skills, and I think that’s neat because even though personal selling is not an area of marketing I would want to pursue, I still developed as a person by taking the class.
What’s a song or album that always puts you in a good mood?
My favorite album of all time is "Zaba" by Glass Animals, and it’s my go-to pick when I’m on a long drive or studying. I’ve been listening to the band since middle school, and I try to see them every time they tour near me. The album has a relaxing, almost psychedelic/hypnotizing sound that I haven’t heard anywhere else. I would highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of your music taste.
