Curtin, Hobbs and Hohnecker receive Oris Bryant Book Scholarships
Please join GSW Staff Senate in congratulating the recipients of the Fall 2016 Oris Bryant Book Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to support currently-employed GSW staff members in their pursuit of higher education. Each recipient was awarded a $50 book scholarship. This scholarship fund is named in honor of the late Oris W. Bryant, Jr., affectionately known as “Chief.” Oris Bryant was an active member of the GSW community where he served as director of Public Safety. The recipients are: Jill Hohnecker, enrolled at Georgia Southwestern State University pursuing a Master of Business Administration; Jonathan Hobbs, enrolled at Georgia Southwestern State University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology; and Josh Curtin, enrolled at the University of Georgia pursuing a Doctor of Education in Student Affairs Leadership(not pictured). Scholarships will be offered again at the beginning of Spring 2017 semester.
Wynn presents at multiple conferences
Associate Professor Keaton Wynn presented two papers Differing Modernisms: Similar Art, Different Meaning and Zhuyi - Theory: Necessity and Limitations at the Shanghai International Aesthetic Conference sponsored by Shanghai Normal University in September. This year’s session was titled the International Academic Seminar on Discourse Innovation and Bie-modern Problems in Art and Aesthetics. The goal of this year’s seminar was to outline the issues and problems for Chinese scholars in the development of local theoretical approaches for critical use in the assessment of contemporary Chinese art and culture.
Laughlin presents at multiple conferences
Mark Laughlin, associate professor of music, presented at the Meaningful Living and Learning in a Digital World, and the Curriculum Studies Summer Collaborative conferences on the innovation of music pedagogy in video game music. His upcoming conference presentations include the Georgia Music Teachers Association State Conference in November, and the Alabama and Florida Music Educators State Conferences in January.
