NellyUNIV 4000 receives OM Partners funding

Thanks to the presentation of Dr. Nedialka Iordanova and with the help of Dr. Catalina Casaru, related to promoting the GSW Service Learning Study Abroad Program (UNIV 4000), the program’s proposal was selected to be funded by the charity initiatives at OM Partners, Atlanta GA. The proposal collected a total of $4,591 as donation from the company. OM Partners is a Georgia based organization focused on optimizing company’s production and distribution chains through the use of their software solution OMP Plus. OMP Plus is focused on minimizing waste, inventory usage while maximizing equipment efficiency in order to reduce the impact on nature and its resources. Their customers are companies in paper, packaging, chemicals and pharmaceuticals who often have no visibility on the impact they have and achieve this by the implementation of OM Partners’ software. Every year, OM Partners collects a shortlist of charity initiatives to vote for by their employees. This year the initiatives were globally oriented including some in the US, Latin America and Europe, and the GSW Service Learning Study Abroad Program (UNIV 4000).

Jenkins leads GACRAO

JenkinsDavid Jenkins, Assistant Director of Admissions, recently presided over the 63rd annual meeting of the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (GACRAO). The conference took place October 22-25 at the Hilton De Soto in Savannah. Approximately 300 GACRAO members from University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, and private institutions were in attendance. During the conference, Jenkins also co-presented a session with Donna Webb, Director of Enrollment Services at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Selena Magnusson, Executive Director of Student Affairs and Registrar at Georgia Northwestern Technical College. Their session, It Starts With Us: Becoming Agents of Change, focused on eight mentoring tips for leaders and managers to develop staff. Dr. Gaye Hayes, Vice President for Enrollment Management, served as moderator for a roundtable discussion for managers and supervisors on the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Admissions GACRAOGACRAO is composed of higher education professionals from more than 100 admissions and records departments at public and private colleges and universities located throughout the state of Georgia. The association works to advance the professional goals of its members through the dissemination of information and the interchange of ideas on problems of common interest to higher education. CPTED Laughlin Laughlin completes CPTED

Leigh Laughlin, lecturer in Criminal Justice, completed the requirements for the Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation from the National Institute of Crime Prevention. As a certified practitioner, Leigh can conduct comprehensive crime prevention assessments of schools and college campuses, shopping centers, government buildings, parks, businesses, and private residences, with the goal of deterring criminal activity through changes to the physical environment.

The CPTED Professional Designation requires 64 hours of training including site plan reviews, terror mitigation, traffic calming, drafting city ordinances, conducting field assessments, and influencing human behavior through the use of lighting and color.
