Why did you choose to attend GSW?
Honestly, choosing GSW was a wildcard decision. However, after my first semester, I chose to stay at GSW because I knew staying at this institution would be a transformative investment towards my future. The relationships built, the opportunities afforded, and the hands-on experiences at GSW have not only made the journey worthwhile, but they have also equipped me with the knowledge and skills I need to succeed.
Please list your University highlights, achievements, leadership and awards.
Are you currently receiving any GSW scholarships? If so, which one(s)?
I am currently receiving the Pope Fellows/Caregiving Scholarship, the Charles L. Mix Memorial Scholarship, and the Jerry and Marjorie Newman Scholarship as part of Southwestern Promise.
Why did you choose your major, or what do you love about your major program at GSW?
Through my own experience, along with witnessing other athletes’ experiences, and hearing stories in the news and on social media, I have learned of the importance of prioritizing mental performance just as much as physical performance to excel. With exercise science and psychology, I can take the knowledge I learn in the classroom and apply it to help athletes and other performers be equipped with essential coping strategies that will enhance their performance and overall well-being.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
In high school, I did theatre for two years and I won the state championship in One Act!
What is a cause you’re passionate about?
I am passionate about advocating for mental health. By breaking down stigmas and fostering open dialogue, I aim to create a community where mental well-being is prioritized, and everyone has access to the help they need.
What have your learned (or are learning) that has made the biggest difference for you?
I've learned that most people are doing the best they can with the information they have, so I choose kindness before jumping to conclusions. This perspective has transformed my interactions, reminding me that empathy and understanding are key to building a supportive, inclusive community.
What is your plan after graduation?
Upon graduating, I plan to pursue a master’s degree in sport and performance psychology.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Your college experience will be what you make it. The more time and energy you put into your experience, the people around you, the more you will get out of it on the other side.
What is your favorite album? Why?
Any album by Tori Kelly is automatically my favorite, but if I had to choose, I would go with her "Hiding Place" album. The album really soothes the soul and reminds me of what matters at the end of the day.
