Transfer Orientation

New Student Orientation will be held August 10-13 with Freshman Convocation taking place on August 13.

Orientation Requirements

This process for first-year students consists of two required programs and an additional optional opportunity:

  • Storm Day - a program designed for advisement and registration for Fall semester classes
  • Freshman Orientation - scheduled the week prior to Fall semester classes beginning
  • Thunder Camp (optional) - an extended orientation program focused on peer connections.

Storm Day provides students an introduction to the academic life and expectations of a first-year student at GSW. At Storm Day, you will meet with faculty in your academic college, register for classes, set up your online platforms, and pick up your student ID.

Freshman Orientation is your first step in transitioning into your role as a student at GSW. During orientation, you will learn about campus resources that are available to help you succeed, meet faculty in your academic college, familiarize yourself with campus, meet student leaders, and be officially welcomed into the University family during Freshman Convocation. Freshman Convocation is an opportunity for you to reflect on your educational endeavor and the commitment of GSW to support you in the pursuit of your goals.

Thunder Camp is an optional extended orientation program designed to assist incoming freshmen with their transition into college. This three-day, two-night experience establishes an opportunity for you to engage and connect with your peers, faculty, and campus leaders through entertaining activities that create bonds with your fellow Thunder Campers. Thunder Camp provides a foundation for a successful college experience by immersing you into the GSW community before classes begin.
