A master’s in computer science prepares graduates for lucrative, high-level careers in computer science. Computer scientists design new computer technologies to solve problems in business, healthcare, science, and education. This program is geared towards current industry demands and provides students with knowledge of the latest technology that is essential in many new areas, including computer and network service and consulting companies, financial institutions, health industries, natural science labs, and medical research labs, and other contexts where intensive manipulation of information is important. 

The MS program consists of 30 graduate credit hours in Computer Science. The curriculum consists of six core courses and four elective courses. Students have the option to choose a thesis. The MSCS program is offered completely online to offer a flexible learning environment and is designed to extend opportunities to working professionals with busy schedules and/or families.

Online Certificate in Computer Information Systems

Basic computer skills are a must in almost every career path. Admission Requirements

Regular Admission (without conditions)

Students wishing to apply to the College of Business and Computing graduate program at Georgia Southwestern State University must submit a completed admissions packet. Incomplete packets may not be reviewed for admissions. The complete admissions packet is comprised of the following:

  1. Graduate application for admission with $25.00 nonrefundable application fee
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended* with a
  3. A minimum of a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average (GPA) based on a 4.0 scale as reported on the official transcripts from all institutions attended. 
    Students are encouraged to "Check Your Admissions Status" for transcripts needed.
  4. A minimum of 3.0 GPA on all previous graduate work attempted
  5. A minimum total 270 on the verbal and quantitative subtests of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  6. Positive letters of recommendation
  7. Immunization form (before enrollment)
  8. Documentation of Lawful Presence (before enrollment, if applying for in-state tuition)

 

Students who meet the following admission requirements and who have fulfilled the prerequisite course requirements will be admitted as a regular graduate student. Names and number of the prerequisite courses need to be discussed with the graduate advisor. 

EXEMPTIONS: Applicants who have earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited university are exempt from the requirement of the GRE score and can be admitted into the program based on their graduate GPA.

Regular Admission (with conditions)

Students seeking a degree through graduate study who do not meet the requirements for regular admission without conditions may be admitted with conditions. Students who meet the following admission requirements will be admitted as conditional graduate students.

  1. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college.
  2. A minimum of 2.2 undergraduate grade point average (GPA) based on a 4.0 scale as reported on the official final transcripts from all institutions attended.
  3. A minimum of 2.75 graduate grade point average (GPA) based on a 4.0 scale as reported on the official final transcripts from all institutions attended.
  4. A minimum total 270 on the verbal and quantitative subtests of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
  5. Positive letters of reference.

To exit conditional status, students must have completed all undergraduate prerequisite course requirements and must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.00 with no grade below a "B" in the first 9 semester hours of master's level courses taken while classified as a conditional graduate student. The student may then be admitted as a regular student, subject to the approval by the Dean of the School of Computing and Mathematics.

EXEMPTIONS: Applicants who have earned a graduate degree from a regionally accredited university are exempt from the requirement of the GRE score and can be admitted into the program based on their graduate GPA.
