Specialist of Education

The Ed.S. program extends opportunities to students who have busy work schedules and families and can not attend classes during the daytime. The courses in this program are offered completely online to offer a flexible learning environment and can be completed in 13 months.

Graduates of the Teacher Leadership program will be classroom teachers and teacher leaders who are able to plan and lead job-embedded professional learning; build a collaborative work environment; align curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices; model best practices; mentor and coach other educators; collaborate with others to analyze data; apply research findings to improve teaching and learning; and collaborate with stakeholders to guide positive change.

Complete your Ed.S. in just 13 months!

Admission Requirements

Students wishing to apply to the College of Education graduate program at Georgia Southwestern State University must submit a completed admissions packet. Incomplete packets may not be reviewed for admissions. The complete admissions packet is comprised of the following:

  1. Graduate application for admission with $25.00 nonrefundable application fee
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended* with a minimum of 3.0 grade point average
    • Ed.S. applicants need only show graduate level coursework
    • *Students who have graduated from Georgia Southwestern do not need to submit a GSW transcript or other transcripts previously received by Southwestern prior to college graduation. Students are encouraged to "Check Your Admissions Status" for transcripts needed.
  3. Two Administrative Recommendation Forms, one from a Supervising Principal and one from another school administrator, Assistant Principal, Department Chair, Lead Teacher.
  4. Commitment Letter
  5. Copy of Professional Teaching Certificate
  6. Immunization form (before enrollment)
  7. Documentation of Lawful Presence (before enrollment, if applying for in-state tuition)

Flexible Courses

Classes meet on five Saturdays during the Fall and Spring terms and two days per week during the month of June. (22 total days for M.Ed. and 16 total days for Ed.S.) All Graduate Education Summer 2021 courses will be offered entirely online rather than the normal online and on-campus hybrid style.
