The Department of Music, Communication, & Emerging Media at Georgia Southwestern offers a wide range of majors and minors in performing arts, digital media, communication studies, and video production. Students can tailor their degree by combining programs, adding certificates, or pairing skills across disciplines.
GSW provides extensive hands-on learning through performances, ensembles, theatre productions, and multimedia projects. Music students participate in concerts, jazz bands, choirs, cabaret shows, and musical theatre, while Communication & Emerging Media students gain real-world experience with on-location filming, a newly renovated media lab equipped with Adobe Creative Suite, and dedicated research resources.

Faculty & StaffGeorgia Southwestern students have the opportunity to gain real-deal experience in communications and media through paid and class-credit internships. GSW also offers students a variety of internships across campus in multimedia areas such as graphic design, video production and creation, social media, and photography.
Georgia Southwestern students give frequent music performances during the year that range from musical theatre productions, madrigal dinners, cabaret, choirs, concert and jazz bands. The Jackson Performance Hall also hosts the Chamber Concert series showcasing musical talent from across the nation for students, faculty, staff, and community members to attend.
Student interns also assist with the production and coordination of our annual TEDxGeorgiaSouthwesternU event where participants engage with an audience on a variety of topics based on the annual theme.
This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
Students can showcase their written abilities with on-campus student publications such as the historic Sou'Wester newspaper (now digital), Blue Fire, the Humanities Symposium, and various writing competitions throughout the term.
While I came to GSW for journalism, my time at Andersonville made me realize I want to become a social media manager for a national park. The communication major allows me to access a multitude of different job opportunities. Even though my career path changed, I was able to keep my same classes and advisor.
